Live Music for your Weekday Wedding in Leicestershire: What to Book and When

Weekday weddings in Leicestershire have their own rhythm. Smaller guest lists, a more relaxed atmosphere and usually a gentler budget. I love photographing them. There's something about a Tuesday or a Thursday wedding that feels more about the two of you and the people who matter most. The music should feel the same way, and booking a band for a midweek date comes with a few advantages that Saturday couples don't get.

If you're starting to think about what's out there, have a look at who covers Leicestershire on FixTheMusic.

Tip 1 - The Saturday advantage works in your favour (sort of)

The best local wedding bands are frequently booked solid for Saturdays, sometimes a year or more in advance. I hear it from couples all the time. They find an act they love, enquire and discover the date is already gone. But those same bands often have midweek dates sitting wide open. If there's an act that catches your eye, it's always a good idea to check whether they have your date free. You might be pleasantly surprised, and so might your wallet.

Tip 2 - Smaller doesn't mean less fun (despite what your mother-in-law thinks)

One of the things I love about weekday weddings is that they tend to draw more intimate guest lists. A smaller crowd means you don't necessarily want a seven-piece showband. A three-piece party band, an acoustic duo or a DJ with a live saxophonist can fill the room beautifully without overwhelming it.

According to FixTheMusic, DJ and sax combinations are a popular choice for Leicestershire weddings, alongside pop and party cover bands. Even at bigger venues like Prestwold Hall, a smaller midweek guest list can suit a compact setup. A smaller lineup also leaves more room. Room for guests to dance, room for the band to move around if they're a roaming act and budget left over for the things that matter to you, whether that's a second photographer, a videographer or a slightly better bar tab.

Tip 3 - It won't cost the earth (but you'll have to ask)

Some acts offer reduced rates for Monday to Thursday dates. Not all of them advertise it, so it's a good idea to ask directly when you enquire. According to FixTheMusic's booking data, the median Saturday wedding booking across the UK is around £3,111, while Monday to Thursday medians sit between £2,140 and £2,500. That's a genuine difference of several hundred pounds.

What you pay will depend on the line-up size, your date, the time of year and travel distance. A weekday enquiry at a quieter time of year can work in your favour on price, and bands based locally in Leicestershire will have lower travel costs too.

Tip 4 - Sunday is the one that'll catch you out

If you're looking at a Friday date and assuming it'll cost more than a Tuesday or a Wednesday, the data says otherwise. Friday weddings on FixTheMusic come in at a median of around £2,500, the same as Wednesday and right in the middle of the Monday to Thursday range. So Friday is very much still midweek pricing. Sunday, on the other hand, is priced almost like a Saturday at a median of around £3,000 compared to £3,111. If budget is a factor and you want a weekend feel without the Saturday price tag, Friday is your friend. Sunday, lovely as it is, won't save you much.

Tip 5 - Your guests have work tomorrow (and that's fine)

A Thursday ceremony might be at midday rather than late afternoon, which means your band could be on earlier than they would for a Saturday wedding. That's not a bad thing at all. It just means thinking about the flow of the day a little differently. An earlier ceremony can mean a longer afternoon for guests to mingle, and an earlier first dance can mean the dancefloor peaks while everyone is still fresh.

It's also good to think about whether some guests might need to leave before the final set if they're working the next day. There's something about a weekday crowd. Everyone gives it everything while they're there, and then heads home. It makes for a concentrated burst of energy that a Saturday crowd, pacing itself for midnight, sometimes doesn't quite match. Chat to the band about timing. A slightly earlier first dance or a shorter set isn't a problem for a good act.

Tip 6 - Midweek venues are a different beast (so tell your band)

Some venues have varying arrangements midweek. Different staff, tighter curfews, different bar hours. It's the kind of thing that's easy to overlook when you're mid-planning and juggling a hundred decisions. Pass all of this on to your band when you book them. A quick heads-up about when they need to wrap up and who's on site to let them in makes the whole night run smoothly.

I always think the best weddings are the ones where the suppliers talk to each other. Your band, your venue, your photographer, whoever's coordinating on the day. A few messages beforehand and everyone's on the same page. It's one of those small things that you won't notice on the day because it just works, and that's exactly the point.
